Update firmware via USB

Perform the steps below to update your device's firmware using a USB drive.

NOTE:

Some steps may be specific to certain ViewBoard models only. However, the overall instructions should still be applicable to most models, unless otherwise noted.

A couple of points to keep in mind before you proceed:

  • This process will require saving very large firmware files on a USB device. Ensure that the capacity of your USB drive can accomodate the size of the firmware file.
  • To prevent confusion and using the wrong file, we highly recommend having the firmware file as the only file on the device.
  • When installing firmware from a USB, insert the USB drive into the USB port reserved for disk drives.

Update via USB drive

This method involves two major steps:

  1. Download the latest firmware for your model onto a USB drive
  2. Complete the update via the following option:
    • System Update > Local Update

Update via USB power key

Use this method if you've received a firmware file from your local field support team.

Update with USB via debug menu

If the device is having severe issues (for example: it can't access the internet), you can try pushing the update via the debug menu of the device.

⚠️  THIS WILL DELETE ALL DEVICE DATA

Before using this method, we highly recommend creating a backup first. This process will completely wipe out and overwrite all data on the device. Once complete, any data removed cannot be recovered.

  1. Acquire the appropriate firmware file from your ViewSonic regional support.
    1. Extract the firmware file from the .zip file you received.
    2. Transfer the firmware file to the root (top) level folder of your USB drive.

  2. Plug your USB drive into a known working USB port on the device.
  3. On your device's remote control:
    1. Press INPUT then 9-9-1.
    2. On the debug menu, access the Update option.
    3. Select Update All.

  4. Wait for the system to install the firmware.
